How do I know if I need therapy?

Therapy can be beneficial for everyone. We go the the doctor and dentist for checkups and often times neglect our mental health. Therapy will give you a place where you can receive unconditional support and talk about any and all problems. In therapy you can learn skills to help manage stressors both big and small. You do not have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.

How will I meet with my therapist (In person or online)?

At Blue Spruce Therapy we offer both in person appointments as well as online (Telehealth). Our online sessions are billed at the same rate as our in-office sessions. We use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video service and the same practice/privacy policies apply. Note: you must be in the state of Utah to receive these services, per state law.

First Session Expectation

The first therapy session will be focused on information gathering and identifying what you would like to work on in therapy. In this session, the therapist will collaborate with you on which therapeutic approach will be most beneficial for you and will also review policies and procedures, confidentiality and billing procedures.

How long does therapy generally last?

Each session generally last 50-60 minutes. The frequency and duration will depend on the assessment by a licensed clinician. During your evaluation, please feel free to ask your therapist about the duration and frequency they recommend. Note: New clients cannot be seen on a monthly basis. This does not give your therapist enough time to get to know you, work towards your goals, and assess for progress. As progress is made, you can talk to your therapist about the possibility of decreasing the frequency of sessions.

What if I don’t connect with my therapist?

Finding the right therapist you connect with is a personal decision and we are aware not all therapists will be a good fit. We suggest attending therapy for a few sessions and if you feel you do not connect with your therapist, you can tell your therapist or call us and ask for a change in therapists. One of our priorities is making sure our clients feel comfortable and safe to be able to work on improving their lives however they see fit.

Confidentiality

You are legally and ethically entitled to confidentiality. This means that your treatment cannot be discussed with any other parties without your written consent. There are a few exceptions to this, however. If you disclose abuse or are an imminent danger to yourself or others, confidentiality may be broken. Please refer to our privacy notice for more information.

Insurance

We do accept insurance and it can be helpful but there are often times limitations with coverage. Insurance plans and coverage depends on specific plans. Please check with your insurance prior to starting therapy. Some insurance companies only allow a certain number of sessions and will only cover treatment of certain diagnosis. In addition, it is not uncommon for insurance plans to have a high deductible or charge you a specialist co-pay. Paying out of pocket sounds overwhelming but after the deductible and co-pay, it may be the same or cheaper to pay out of pocket. Our goal is to provide a personalized experience that will benefit you long-term; something that is not always possible with insurance companies.
